Bill Morrissey
Something I Saw (Or Thought I Saw
(Red House)

Bill Morrissey's latest effort is brilliant. Something I Saw - or Thought I Saw is a classic response to personal troubles. Morrissey is an artist capable of taking us where we don't want to go ourselves. A master lyricist, he is able to communicate worlds with a simple gesture of plain words. The production is typically spare as well, though I quibble with a few of the extras - clarinet on the opening track, horns on another. The playing and the mix are just wooden. Otherwise, a breakthrough album for Morrissey. -HB
