Since the 1960's the singer-songwriter has come to dominate today's folk scene. And because the audiences for this kind of music now come mainly from the prospering middle class rather than from poor and working class roots, the writing has become more sophisticated. It harkens back to the age of court troubadours more than populist "guerrilla minstrels."
